2 points, basket

I have been going to Ogletree for a good while now, its a really good time being there. I am glad I had the chance to help the kids with there being more positive attitudes toward each other. I did my project on improving my basketball skills and several weeks ago I started going to play basketball after school with kids at Ogletree and ended up being a positive role model for good sportsmanship. I encouragered the young boys to pass the ball, work together, and have fun playing the game and not be so serious. The kids and I just shot, we played a game called around the world and along the way we all became better basketball players. Writing this blog really made me think about how I wanted to improve and to go out and practice weekly.

Loving Ogltree a lot

I went to Olgetree to play basketball with the 5th graders. They are really fun kids, they have a lot of energy. They are good at basketball, really none of them are bad at all. They are all really good at shooting. I was surprised how good they are they have some good skills they are a good bit better at basketball than I was at that age. They really like talking sports to me, and who  your favorite player is and we talk about how they are doing in school with school work and sports. I also got taught by E.j an auburn basketball player. We were working on an strong layups. What he taught was get you right hand put the ball there so the defender will not get the ball as easy, you get the ball and swipe it to the left so the defender will not see it coming and you can drive a strong layup to the basket. I did lot for me just teaching me that one skill.

Having a lot of fun at Olgetree

Today I went to Olgetree to play basketball with 5th graders. I enjoyed it a lot just trying to connect with some younger kids to help them have better sportsmanship. We played a game called gotcha and we played a regular basketball game. In addition to myself there are two college students helping out with the younger kids. They are really nice kids and even though I have only been there twice I feel like I have made a good connection with them. Because basketball is so competitive, it is easy to get caught up in wanting to be the best player. I hope to just get the kids to have a good time playing and not be so serious. I look forward to going back next week and having fun with them.

One of my Rolemodels

What I want to do is work on all basketball skills just like Kevin Love. The reason why choose him is because he works hard everyday. No matter the cause he is a great team player. He is loves the game of basketball he is such a great long range shooter he can make a long shoot anywhere on the court. He is a great clutch shooter. He plays in the NBA for minnostea Timberwolves his position is forward he is also a really defender, he is a really good at blocking to. He likes making big plays all over the court like steals and dunks and rebounds. His team is going to the playoffs right now he is a big part of their team right now he can do whatever you want to. He is a problem for anybody that plays him, he plays really confident whatever he does that's why he is so smart and he also has always been a great player since day one. I just want to be kind of like him I think I am kind of like him in some ways. I am a really good long range shooter and I can make really good rebounds. I am also a good thinker, I can make plays for team if they need help and I can make good passes for teammates. I think he is such a amazing player and I am going to try my best to be a great player just like him.

My basketball skills always can be better

I have been doing ok. My basketball techniques have been a little worse. It is the little things you have to do that I am having trouble with.  I am not always following through with my shots. You need to think were you are going to shoot every time you are on the court, but there are a lot of other things to think about. I am still good at my dribbling moves. I feel like they are really good, and I look smooth moving the ball all around the court. My behind the back move is really good. I have been working on that a lot. I just try to take everything one day at a time. My brother and me work on all of are techniques everyday I want to be the best I can be for myself we also just play around with each just shooting, layups, and are dribbling moves, and are rebounding skills, he is a big part in why I am getting better most of the time we love playing basketball together. He is a great mentor to me in whatever I do.

Always like improving my basketball skills

I have been doing good in basketball, My basketball skills are improving a lot on shooting, three throws, dribbling moves, layups, also rebounds. My shooting as improved a lot every time I play I have made about 8 three pointers every time, I feel like I can do a lot of great things on three pointers I feel really confident in it I always have, my game also has improved on my dribbling moves are really good I can do almost all the moves now, I am really at doing in between my legs and out, that's probably the best dribbling move I can do but I feel confident in all my dribbling moves. My layups are really easy I can make a layup from anywhere on the court, I can make a really surprising layup that you will be really surprised at it and also can make layup going straight to the basket. My rebounding is really good I can go reach for it in the air and I can go run for the rebound and score on the other way.

My basketball skills are a lot better

I have been doing really good in my basketball skills. My shooting has been really good lately, the long shooting has been really good I have been getting better everyday that's one of my really good strength I feel like I can my long shots in anywhere on the court. My dribbling moves have been getting a lot better now I feel like I can do any of the dribbling moves that you want me to, I feel like I can put a move on somebody that would not expect it and score on them. I also can make a lot more three throws I have made 12 to 15 three throws I have been shooting throws a little different now it has been helping a lot more now. I have been shooting three throws a lot I have not done bad at three throws in along time. My layups have been really easy to, I can go to the goal and make a really good layup easy. I also think my shorter shooting has been easier than ever. I just think all my basketball skills have been doing a lot better than ever, I feel like my game is the best it is ever been. I seen how whatever you want to do you should do the best you can.

Getting a lot better

Lately I have been getting better on all my basketball skills it has been kind of a slow process. I have lately have been shooting really good and also my dribbling moves are good I feel like I can do the dribbling moves I feel confident in. I also feel like when I do the dribbling moves I can be a threat to the person I face. I feel like I can shoot long shots like anybody else can. A person that I try to learn his game and try to do kind of what he does is Kyle korver I what to be a great shooter just like him he can make long shots anywhere on the court and he can make clutch shots in big games and he also can drive to the basket. He's also has over 114 games with at least one three pointer. He's also a great thinker in what he's doing on the court. He's amazing to watch I would love to do something like that in my life.

I finally improved my game

I have been still working on my basketball skills a lot. I doing a lot better on everything, I have made a lot more 3 pointers I have been working on that a lot I felt like I need to force on that because a long range is always important in someone's game. The others thing I have been working is my dribbling skills I have been getting down pretty good. I have dribbling lower and also faster, and I can do some of the dribbling moves now I can do the behind the back move really good now I beat my older 19 year brother with that move. The others dribbling moves I can do is the between the legs.
I also have been doing better on layups. I can finally really see why the pro nba basketball players and the college basketball players so good.

Still working on it

I have been practicing on my basketball skills, I have been getting better a lot almost everyday the best skill I am good at is 3 pointers and layups the skill I am a little worse on the dribbling moves the reason why is I haven't got it  because the moves are a little difficult cause you have to think about it and what you are going to do every time you just have to not worry about it. I also haven't found the dribbling drills I want to look at to get better . It would be great to have a coach to teach me drills to become more of a skilled player. That would help me be a better player. I can tell my shooting is a lot better I making more shots constantly. It comes naturally to others but it is not naturally for me.

Still working on my shot

Today in the gym I worked on my 3 pointers, dribbling, layups .I  have been working on these shots for a while now. I feel like I have been getting a lot better mostly on layups and 3 pointers. I think the most difficult skill is jump shots because you have to catch the ball in your hands and at the same time watch the defense to see what they are going to do. I think Andrew Wiggins is the best 3 point shooter. I think this because he is on a winning team and he is also leading all players in scoring and he is just a sophomore. I think the best player dribbling to the goal to make a layup is marcs smart. Marcus smart also played at Oklahoma St. he is just a sophomore he is such a talented player because his quickly burst. While he can dribble to the he is also a great clutch shooter. These guys are at the top of there game I wonder what I would be like to play like them. It takes a lot of hard work and natural abilities combine to reach this level of skill.

Inside shot

I didn't shoot basketball lately. But the last time I played basketball I did really good my three pointers were going in , my layups were easier than they've been, and all of it was just easier for me. I feel like I can do more than I could ever do. I can make the harder shots. But I feel like I need to work on the  closer shots. It's harder to make a closer shot than it is to pull up and shoot a long shot because you have to worry about the defenders that can block you. For a shorter shot you might have to dribble around a defender or out jump him. You might have to fake him out, be quicker than he is, or just be able to jump higher in order to get the shot off. It is hard to practice this realistically when you are practicing alone. To practiced inside shots you have to imagine a defender and what you have to do to get around him.

Getting better

Today in the gym I was practicing my shooting and dribbling skills. Still working on my long range 3 shots. I have made 5 in a row but my new goal is to make 10. This might be pretty hard but I think I can do it. I have been also been practicing three throws. I also want to set a goal to make 10 out of 15 three throws. If I achieve these goals I will have to shoot at home It is a lot calmer and I can focus more. My dribbling has been getting better but I cant do all the moves yet. One of the lesson I have learned about basketball is its a lot easier to make a opened shot than it is to dribble through traffic. I have to respect the people that have taken there natural ability and practiced to work hard enough.

basketball dribbling and shootimg

I have been practicing this week on dribbling and shooting .I have been practicing at the gym and at home. Work outs at the gym and at home are a little different from each other. The gym has periment goals with large stable backboards. At home I have a portable goal with a small backboard that wobbles a lot. Even though its not the best got I shoot better on it. The school floor is hard and smooth while the court at home is dirt. Since the dirt at home is so bumpy it find it better to dribble on the woody floor at school at . Even though I have been practicing a lot I have had good then I have had bad days. The dribbling skills that I am better at is I dribbling low. The dribbling skill I have trouble at is doing the crossover moves. Practicing dribbling and shooting shows me how difficult these skills are. I am really impressed with the athletes that are so good at performing these skills.

Basketball skills

To reach my goal of improving my basketball skills, on Friday another  student and I went to the gym to practice our skills.  We did long shooting . We did layups. We practiced are crossovers moves. We practiced how fast we could dribble. We also did mid range shots.

The long shots were practiced beyond the three point line. Shots were taken all around the 3 point line. A shot was taken and than we moved to another passion. We worked our way all around the three point line and back.

The next skill we practiced was layups. First we practiced shooting layups from the right side. Next we practiced layups from the left side. We also practiced layups like we were in a real game.

We worked on are crossover moves after the layups. A crossover move involves faking out a defender by starting one direction to get him off balance and quickly going the other way.

Next we practiced our dribbling. We bounced the basketball as fast as we could. We also practiced bouncing between our legs.

The last thing we did was to take a few med range shots before leaving.

Basketball skills

MY name is Seyller Jennings and in my 9th grade English class we are doing a project called 20% time. WE get to choose a topic we are interested in exploring and are given class time each week to write a blog about what we are learning. THE topic I choose was improving my basketball skills and recording my progress weekly. The skills I want most to improve on are dripping, passing, shooting and rebounding. I project because think this will be a fun project because I love playing basketball.
