Getting better

Today in the gym I was practicing my shooting and dribbling skills. Still working on my long range 3 shots. I have made 5 in a row but my new goal is to make 10. This might be pretty hard but I think I can do it. I have been also been practicing three throws. I also want to set a goal to make 10 out of 15 three throws. If I achieve these goals I will have to shoot at home It is a lot calmer and I can focus more. My dribbling has been getting better but I cant do all the moves yet. One of the lesson I have learned about basketball is its a lot easier to make a opened shot than it is to dribble through traffic. I have to respect the people that have taken there natural ability and practiced to work hard enough.

basketball dribbling and shootimg

I have been practicing this week on dribbling and shooting .I have been practicing at the gym and at home. Work outs at the gym and at home are a little different from each other. The gym has periment goals with large stable backboards. At home I have a portable goal with a small backboard that wobbles a lot. Even though its not the best got I shoot better on it. The school floor is hard and smooth while the court at home is dirt. Since the dirt at home is so bumpy it find it better to dribble on the woody floor at school at . Even though I have been practicing a lot I have had good then I have had bad days. The dribbling skills that I am better at is I dribbling low. The dribbling skill I have trouble at is doing the crossover moves. Practicing dribbling and shooting shows me how difficult these skills are. I am really impressed with the athletes that are so good at performing these skills.

Basketball skills

To reach my goal of improving my basketball skills, on Friday another  student and I went to the gym to practice our skills.  We did long shooting . We did layups. We practiced are crossovers moves. We practiced how fast we could dribble. We also did mid range shots.

The long shots were practiced beyond the three point line. Shots were taken all around the 3 point line. A shot was taken and than we moved to another passion. We worked our way all around the three point line and back.

The next skill we practiced was layups. First we practiced shooting layups from the right side. Next we practiced layups from the left side. We also practiced layups like we were in a real game.

We worked on are crossover moves after the layups. A crossover move involves faking out a defender by starting one direction to get him off balance and quickly going the other way.

Next we practiced our dribbling. We bounced the basketball as fast as we could. We also practiced bouncing between our legs.

The last thing we did was to take a few med range shots before leaving.

Basketball skills

MY name is Seyller Jennings and in my 9th grade English class we are doing a project called 20% time. WE get to choose a topic we are interested in exploring and are given class time each week to write a blog about what we are learning. THE topic I choose was improving my basketball skills and recording my progress weekly. The skills I want most to improve on are dripping, passing, shooting and rebounding. I project because think this will be a fun project because I love playing basketball.
